Dollar depreciation is a reality right now. The phenomenon poses two sides of a coin. Positives are for countries who import products into their own country. With their currencies strengthening against the dollar, they will be able to buy more for the same amount. However, exporters are at a loss since income generate in dollar decreases in value. The depreciation of the dollar affects all countries as it is the most powerful currency and most standardized. Almost all that the US is now, it has the dollar to thank for. A decline in the currency will spell trouble for the US and its superpower hold over the world.

The Spratly Islands are a group of 100 or more islands that is currently the centerpiece of a major debacle in East Asian politics. People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines are the main claimers of territory upon this archipelago. The subject of the political disputes are mainly because of

a)The discovery of rich oil and gas grounds in 1968 in the region.
b)The rich fishing grounds that are well known in the commercial fishing industry
c)The region being one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
All of these make the Spratlys a huge asset to whichever country achieves successful claim over the territory.

Tibet and China have long been a standing issue in world politics. The barbaric display of the Chinese in suffocating freedom and liberty in the small region. Just as it struggles to contain Taiwan, China is on the tethering edge of demographic swamping. Though it adamantly refuses to acknowledge the use of violence in Tibet, global pressure is surmounting upon the large country to reveal the truth of its barbaric treatment on protests occurring in the small region. What with the upcoming Beijing Olympics, China had better soon start fixing this public relations disaster else who knows what could happen.

A nuclear age is an age when nuclear power will and finally be fully realized and used throughout the world. Though many of the world’s countries are already into the nuclear-making facilities for energy production, restriction of the radioactive process is highly maintained. In an age where technology is becoming too fast for the average Joe to follow, living in a world where nuclear weapons fly back and forth is indeed frightening. Much of politics have been discussed whether allowing a country to have nuclear power or not and a very small mistake could send the world tumbling down in radioactive doom.

Global warming: A Worldwide Issue

Global warming is around the corner and the UN has declared a solid front in battling it. With so many countries, particularly China, progressing towards the future age, production of green house gases is inevitably rising. Evidences point out that sea levels are already rising at a far rapid pace than before in history and scientists credit this to the melting glaciers in the North Pole. When China finally booms into a 1st world country, the inevitable will happen, tons of green house gases poured out each day and temperatures fluctuating at haphazard rates. Politics has as much to do with global warming as this could affect the entire world.

Oil and politics

Oil and politics have always gone hand in hand. Be it in a scandalous manner or a blessing to the people, economy is always greatly affected by this black gold. As oil continues to close on the so-called $100 a barrel mark, there are worries rising about supplies, not helped by the quickly declining purchasing power of the US dollar. The main reason is demand. A higher demand is quickly pushing oil-producing companies to raise the prices in order to make ends meet. With China growing to be a world superpower pretty soon and tons of oil being required in the process, there is no telling when the rise will stop or when they will take a breather. A more dreadful question would be what countries’ economy would be tipped into recession when oil prices overwhelm them.

Egypt-Israel Truce Offer

Umar Suleiman – Egyptian Intelligence Chief, is arriving in Israel to hear their official response to Egypt’s cease-fire proposal for Gaza.

The deal was agreed upon by 12 Palestinian factions, including Hamas, and Cairo wants Israel to accept it. This is because Israel is being cautious about its response to the truce idea. Jerusalem is also concerned that Hamas will exploit this truce to rearm and regroup to prepare for the next round of conflict.

Security experts from Israel are proposing conditions to the government that any acceptance to the truce has to include a deal to release Gilad Shalit. Shalit is an Israeli soldier that was captured by three Palestinian armed groups nearly two years ago on the Gaza border, and is believed to be held in the Gaza strip.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said that the United States would “totally obliterate” Iran if it attacked Israel with nuclear weapons – because of this statement Iran has lodged a formal protest at the United Nations (reported by IRNA, the state-run news agency).

When asked what she would do if Iran attacked Israel, Mrs. Clinton made the comment in an interview saying that if she will be the next president, the United States will attack Iran. So Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi (Iran’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations) sent a letter of protest to the United Nations Security Council and secretary general stating that the comments of Mrs. Clinton were “provocative, unwarranted, and irresponsible.”
