The Hezbollah affair.

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

hezbollah-salute.jpg

Hezbollah, the political organization in Lebanon, has been accused by Lebanese authorities that they’ve set-up hidden cameras at the Beirut international airport. The cameras were found by Lebanese soldiers in containers and reported of having seen civilians shooting pictures of the said containers where the cameras were found. The Cabinet of Lebanon had a meeting about whether Hezbollah had already established an exclusive phone network.

If we can recall, although Hezbollah is categorized as a political organization, countries like USA, UK, Japan, Canada, Philippines and Australia have declared Hezbollah as a terrorist group. In most Arab regions however, they still consider Hezbollah as resistance movement.

Not another funding!

Unfortunately, some people aren’t thinking. With the US recession, international shortage of food, plummeting real estate values and the hiking oil prices (predicted to reach $5.00 per gallon), US President George W. Bush set aside these priorities and decided to add additional funding for the Iraq war. It seems like this is in fact the President’s priority since he disbursed a whopping total of $162.5 billion for the Iraq war alone. The money is good until the mid of 2009 since this is the due date of the troops’ comeback to Uncle Sam.

Some people just won’t give up, eh?

Ban Ki-moon, new UN Secretary-General: what to expect from him?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

20061005-ban-ki-moon.jpg

After the retirement of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-moon was elected as his replacement. Kofi Annan has served two consecutive terms in the UN as Secretary General and has won a Nobel Peace Prize for his strong reforms and advocacies on human rights.

Now, since a new Secretary General has been elected, the public will surely expect a lot from Ban Ki-moon since Kofi Annan was a much publicized UN icon during his time. Ban Ki-moon is thought of by many as a “softy” as he decided not to take sides regarding the issue of death penalty and left the decision upon the heads of the state. The UN purely opposes it though.

The Economist has posted some of the major problems that Ban Ki-moon will face: 1. nuclear issues of Iran and Nokor; 2. the war in Darfur; 3. prevalent violence in the Middle East; 4. HIV/AIDS and a lot more.

US Presidential elections update.

election_2008-400x300.jpg

Since there are two Democrats running for the US election, both of them have been seen pounding on each other ever since day 1. Obama and Clinton have both been criticized by the people since all they do is strike each other with arguments that lead sometimes to character assassination. McCain on the other hand, quietly slips through them, creating a clean name for himself, without stepping on both.

Recent polls of Reuters, a world-renowned broadsheet and up-to-date news deliverer, included in their website a poll that allows people to “vote” for their desired President. McCain is leading to both Democrat Presidents but between Obama and Clinton, Obama leads the race.

UN to lift the ban on American chicken imports in EU?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

chickenwing.jpg

The United States has long been deprived of getting their chickens on the tables of the Europeans. Ten years ago, a ban was imposed on the importation of US chickens in all of EU since it does not comply with some of the rules and regulations EU has set on poultry importation. US poultry exporters use a low concentrated wash on their chickens, something that the EU does not allow.

But to those Europeans who wish to taste American chickens, do not despair. There will be a meeting in June between US and EU officials and just hope that it’ll turn out the way you wanted it to be. If the EU will lift its ban, American economy will surely have a smile on its face as it has penetrated the EU chicken industry.

“Iran is homosexual free!”

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

A lot of human rights activists raised their eyebrows upon hearing Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech at the Columbia University, claiming that “Iran is homosexual free”. It is a fact that in Islam, homosexuality is a sin and is punishable by death and two homosexual teenagers were sampled by this rigid law (they were hanged). Ahmadinejad said in his speech that in Iran, they didn’t have this kind of homosexual phenomenon like what the Americans have. Human rights activists, especially the British group OutRage, have also been keen in following the activities of the President.

Whether there are no homosexuals in Iran because there really are no homosexuals, or the President is trying to eliminate them one by one, is debatable.

Global warming myth part II: the man behind the documentary.

al-gore-plane.gif

It is a known fact that a lot of people criticized Al Gore for his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” about its scientific credibility but, what is not known to people are some facts about Al Gore’s lifestyle that seem to contradict his advocacy.

Last year, the Nashville Electric Service said in their statement that Al Gore’s mansion in Nashville consumes electricity more than 12 – 20 average houses combined. It has been noted that Gore’s electric consumption rose after the worldwide release of “An Inconvenient Truth”. During the promotion of the said documentary, he has been flying to different locations using his private jet. Now, how much is gasoline you say? During those times, gasoline was by far cheaper than today but even then. The fact that he used large amounts of gasoline to promote a “green” documentary is questionable. Others actually, go beyond. There were people who noticed his weight gain from the time he was still the Vice President until he released his documentary. They say that if Al Gore really was concerned about the environment, he should go on a veggie diet since cooking meat emits more “toxins” in the air.

Global warming myth part I: the facts.

2007-10-17globalwarming.jpg

Global warming is probably the most celebrated topic of all time in the past 5 years. It all started with Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States of America, when he released his Academy Award winning documentary entitled “An Inconvenient Truth”. A lot of people praised his work but, at the same time, a lot too condemned it.

“The Great Global Warming Swindle”, released by some British television, is perhaps the published video that directly attacks Al Gore’s creation. The video included interviews of climate scientists that opposed the idea of global warming. They said that the global warming claim Gore is making is not real and accused him of presenting a scientific fact using emotions. A great compilation of the different experts (I mean the ones with doctorate degrees) are seen here and the excerpts are worth the read.
