Within 24 hours of being removed from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, North Korea has agreed to blow up the cooling tower that is attached to its Yongbyon nuclear facility. Diplomats said that the destruction of the cooling tower is intended to be broadcast around the globe as a striking visual, as U.S. officials intended. This would offer tangible evidence that North Korea was indeed retreating from its nuclear ambitions. Experts say that the destruction would be symbolic. During the talks, North Korean officials reaffirmed that it would quickly act after Pyongyang is removed from the terrorism list.
