One of them is Confucius, who is an ancient Chinese philosopher and was one of the early thinkers who contributed to the field of political philosophy. The beliefs of Confucius ware strongly connected to the idea of personal ethics and morality because he believed that a ruler with moral values and who possesses the “virtue” deserves to execute power and authority.

China’s Policy on Corruption and Human Rights

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

In the recent milk scandal where hundreds of thousands of children were infected and a few died due to exposure to the industrial chemical melamine, China has again showcased its ability to enforce the law with a Communist flair. Announcing the conviction of several people who were found to have had a hand in the scandal, they were sentenced to the death penalty by firing squad, a practice that has long been abolished in the rest of the world. Human Rights activists deplore the said act that is brutal and unjustifiable as China is striving to cope with the change brought in by Globalization. Several other scandals have resulted in such executions which has silently drawn protests from many countries.
By saying silent, it means without much fanfare for China is the biggest market for consumer goods with billions of citizens and nobody wants to bite the hand that feeds it. Many more incidents of neglect for profit and others would be sure to surface as China has yet to adapt to a world where anybody can criticize or scrutinize anything imaginable (from outside the country that is).

Presidential candidate John McCain spent $37 million in September for the campaign. This month he has a remaining $47 million to spend. huge money we’re talking here. The Federal Election Commission reported McCain spent around $22 million on advertising alone. He was trying to keep up with ads of Barack Obama. McCain participated in the election public financing system and got $84 million from the treasury. Obama on the other hand, is outspending McCain this October in advertisements, 4-1 ratio. maCain undeniably received support from the Republican National Committee, which was able to raise $66 million dollars last September. That would mean, that by the start of the month, they had more than $124 million on hand. The party have parted with the costs of hybrid ads that criticized Obama and the Democrats in Congress. McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis siad that by Election day, the party would have spent a staggerin $400 million for the two-month campaign.

Hollywood certainly seems to love Barack Obama. From Oprah (who unarguably holds a lot of clout for her daily viewers) to Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Affleck and Scarlett Johansson, tinseltown’s stars are going all out in their campaign for their favorite US presidential candidate. And now comes music videos by will.i.am, singer of The Black Eyed Peas, called “Yes We Can” and “We are the Ones” that are based on Obama’s speeches.

The songs, that were originally released in YouTube and Dipdive.com, feature cameos by several celebrities who support Barack Obama. It is now being promoted as a viral video on Obama’s campaign website. “Yes We Can” even won an Emmy for Best New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment, and won a Webby Award for will.i.am as “Artist of the Year”. Check out more about the songs in Wikipedia.

It is a known fact that a lot of people criticized Al Gore for his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” about its scientific credibility but, what is not known to people are some facts about Al Gore’s lifestyle that seem to contradict his advocacy.

Last year, the Nashville Electric Service said in their statement that Al Gore’s mansion in Nashville consumes electricity more than 12 – 20 average houses combined. It has been noted that Gore’s electric consumption rose after the worldwide release of “An Inconvenient Truth”. During the promotion of the said documentary, he has been flying to different locations using his private jet. Now, how much is gasoline you say? During those times, gasoline was by far cheaper than today but even then. The fact that he used large amounts of gasoline to promote a “green” documentary is questionable. Others actually, go beyond. There were people who noticed his weight gain from the time he was still the Vice President until he released his documentary. They say that if Al Gore really was concerned about the environment, he should go on a veggie diet since cooking meat emits more “toxins” in the air.

Global warming is probably the most celebrated topic of all time in the past 5 years. It all started with Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States of America, when he released his Academy Award winning documentary entitled “An Inconvenient Truth”. A lot of people praised his work but, at the same time, a lot too condemned it.

“The Great Global Warming Swindle”, released by some British television, is perhaps the published video that directly attacks Al Gore’s creation. The video included interviews of climate scientists that opposed the idea of global warming. They said that the global warming claim Gore is making is not real and accused him of presenting a scientific fact using emotions. A great compilation of the different experts (I mean the ones with doctorate degrees) are seen here and the excerpts are worth the read.

Global warming: A Worldwide Issue

Global warming is around the corner and the UN has declared a solid front in battling it. With so many countries, particularly China, progressing towards the future age, production of green house gases is inevitably rising. Evidences point out that sea levels are already rising at a far rapid pace than before in history and scientists credit this to the melting glaciers in the North Pole. When China finally booms into a 1st world country, the inevitable will happen, tons of green house gases poured out each day and temperatures fluctuating at haphazard rates. Politics has as much to do with global warming as this could affect the entire world.
