The U.S. Elections

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

World politics keeps abreast with the upcoming U.S. Presidential Elections and is hungry for relevant information, which is quite understandable with the United States being a pillar of world economy. Much of what is happening in the U.S. whether political, economic or social affects much of the affairs of nations around the world which often lends to the country’s image of imposing its will and domination on smaller economies.

Much of the world attention centers on the numerous candidates and the policy stands they present on various issues that range from economic to technology and health care. The stand of the next U.S. President will surely dictate the country’s international policies, which may either strain or relax world political ties.

Hollywood Loves Obama

Hollywood certainly seems to love Barack Obama. From Oprah (who unarguably holds a lot of clout for her daily viewers) to Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Affleck and Scarlett Johansson, tinseltown’s stars are going all out in their campaign for their favorite US presidential candidate. And now comes music videos by will.i.am, singer of The Black Eyed Peas, called “Yes We Can” and “We are the Ones” that are based on Obama’s speeches.

The songs, that were originally released in YouTube and Dipdive.com, feature cameos by several celebrities who support Barack Obama. It is now being promoted as a viral video on Obama’s campaign website. “Yes We Can” even won an Emmy for Best New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment, and won a Webby Award for will.i.am as “Artist of the Year”. Check out more about the songs in Wikipedia.

Would it not be so nice just to have one election of any kind to get to the finish line without having to hear the competitors slinging trash at one another? Is it not much more important for us to hear what things they are planning to do to help this country and the poor pitiful state that it is in?

It is really sad when the American people are being fed tabloid type stories as the material to base their votes on. The presidential election in America is one of the most important elections in the world. It also makes you wonder whether there should be some law passed prohibiting candidates to say anything about the other. Maybe they should be made to just stick to talking about themselves and not be able to trash the other opponent since this seems to be what they do the best.

It is true that we have freedom of speech and should be allowed to say pretty much what ever we want to, but when it comes to politics it seems to have gotten out of control. As an American voters you don’t want to hear half truths and exaggerated stories that do not turn out to be exactly what they are implied to be. The truth is where the voting choice is to be based on. The truth and nothing but.

Not another funding!

Unfortunately, some people aren’t thinking. With the US recession, international shortage of food, plummeting real estate values and the hiking oil prices (predicted to reach $5.00 per gallon), US President George W. Bush set aside these priorities and decided to add additional funding for the Iraq war. It seems like this is in fact the President’s priority since he disbursed a whopping total of $162.5 billion for the Iraq war alone. The money is good until the mid of 2009 since this is the due date of the troops’ comeback to Uncle Sam.

Some people just won’t give up, eh?

Tibet and China have long been a standing issue in world politics. The barbaric display of the Chinese in suffocating freedom and liberty in the small region. Just as it struggles to contain Taiwan, China is on the tethering edge of demographic swamping. Though it adamantly refuses to acknowledge the use of violence in Tibet, global pressure is surmounting upon the large country to reveal the truth of its barbaric treatment on protests occurring in the small region. What with the upcoming Beijing Olympics, China had better soon start fixing this public relations disaster else who knows what could happen.

Federalism

1.jpgWhat prompts the creation of federal political institutions and how can the core of state building be unbending to create a union yet accommodate adequate grant to federal concessions of subunits? The transformation of federations is not the result of exclusivity but rather by voluntary contract.

Whether it is a federal or unitary dependency, coercion and cooperation always go together in the formation of states which includes federations. Constituents of possible federations are usually well governed and parliamentary with delivery of benefits from state formation assuring the continued existence of a federal government. Poorly governed and patrimonial subunits are immersed in unitary models for governance.
