Egypt-Israel Truce Offer

Umar Suleiman – Egyptian Intelligence Chief, is arriving in Israel to hear their official response to Egypt’s cease-fire proposal for Gaza.

The deal was agreed upon by 12 Palestinian factions, including Hamas, and Cairo wants Israel to accept it. This is because Israel is being cautious about its response to the truce idea. Jerusalem is also concerned that Hamas will exploit this truce to rearm and regroup to prepare for the next round of conflict.

Security experts from Israel are proposing conditions to the government that any acceptance to the truce has to include a deal to release Gilad Shalit. Shalit is an Israeli soldier that was captured by three Palestinian armed groups nearly two years ago on the Gaza border, and is believed to be held in the Gaza strip.
